We would like to invite you to a special screening of the documentary film Hughesovka and the New russia, as part of the exhibition Let Earth Become Sky.

The film explores the history of Hughesovka, Stalino, and Donetsk (the different names of the city over time) through the eyes of a delegation from the Hughes family visiting Donetsk in the 1990s. It traces the town’s rapid growth, shaped by migration, industrial expansion, and the wider political and economic transformations of the region over time.
Drawing on historical research and archival material, the documentary reflects on themes of the British and Russian empires, modernization, and how historical narratives are formed and remembered.
After the screening, we will host a small group discussion where participants are welcome to share reflections and thoughts inspired by the film.
Admission: free, but we will collect a minimum donation of 2000 HUF to keep vegyeskereskedés going.

Vegyeskereskedés is an experimental art collective originated in Józsefváros. Through the concept of “universal store”, they explore everyday community life and create an open space for dialogue, addressing social and political issues.
