Lucinda Douglas-Menzies brit fotóművész négy éven át fényképezett magyar filmrendezőket, egy világjárvánnyal is dacolva. A most kiállított tablót megelőzte 2009-ben brit csillagászokról, 2015-ben pedig dél-ázsiai írókról készített sorozata. A három témának semmilyen kapcsolódása nincs egymáshoz, hacsak az nem, hogy az ember identitásának legfontosabb kérdéseire keresi a választ: ki vagyok, és miért lettem az, aki? Közös bennük, hogy szereplői megtalálták önmagukat, tudják, miért teszik azt, amit, ráadásul jelentős tudósként, alkotóművészként maguk is hozzájárulnak a világ megértéséhez. Ez a tabló Lucindáé. A képeken azok a filmrendezők szerepelnek, akik bizalmukba fogadták, és nemcsak portrét ültek neki, de megosztották vele gondolataikat arról, miért választották ezt a pályát. Meglehetősen szubjektív összeállítás született, amely ennek ellenére mégis reprezentálja a kétezerhúszas évek magyar filmrendezőit egy portrégaléria időmetszetében.

For four years, British photographer Lucinda Douglas-Menzies has been taking photographs of Hungarian filmmakers, defying a pandemic. This exhibition was preceded by her portrait series on British astronomers in 2009 and South Asian writers in 2015. The three topics have no connection to each other, other than answering the most important questions of one’s identity: who am I and why did I become who I am? What they have in common is that their characters have found themselves, they know why they do what they do, and, as important scientists and artists, they themselves contribute to understanding the world. This exhibition is Lucinda’s. It features the filmmakers who confided in her and not only sat for her portrait, but also shared their thoughts on why they chose this career path. The result is a rather subjective compilation, which nevertheless represents the Hungarian film directors of the 2020s through a time section of a portrait gallery.
