Lenti egy kicsi község Magyarországon, Zala megyében. Altavilla Silentina pedig egy kicsi város Olaszországban, nem messze Nápolytól. Mi köze a két városnak egymáshoz?
Nico Pirozzi, Olaszországban élő, holokauszt témában kutató újságíró foglalkozott először ezzel a kérdéssel. Kutatásai során arra lett figyelmes, hogy az aprócska Altavilla Silentinában a népességhez képest gyanúsan sok zsidó lakott a vészkorszak idején. Pontosan 51. Utána járt a témának, és akkor jött a még nagyobb meglepetés; ezek mind magyar zsidók. Folytatván a kutatást kiderült, hogy mind Magyarországról, Zala megyéből, Lentiből valók, de soha nem éltek Altavilla Silentinában, vagyis hamis papírokról van szó, amit nyilván embermentés céljával szerzett meg valaki és juttatott el Magyarország eme kicsiny településébe. Sok a hiányzó láncszem.
Talán soha nem fogjuk megtudni, hogyan kerültek a papírok Zala megyébe, de beszámolunk a keresés, a kutatás állomásairól, vagyis arról, hogy mi történik útközben…

Lenti is a small town in Zala county, Hungary.
Altavilla Silentina is a small town in Italy, not far from Naples.
What connects these two places?
Italian Shoah researcher and journalist Nico Pirozzi was the first to try and answer the question. During his work, he noticed a little town not far from Naples, Altavilla Silentina, where a suspiciously large number of Jews lived during the dangerous times. Fifty-one, to be exact.
As he started digging deeper, his surprise only grew; these were all Hungarian Jews. Following the thread led him to a small Hungarian town, Lenti, where all of these people were from, and who had never lived in Altavilla Silentina. This had to mean fake documents, which were obviously used to save people and were somehow delivered to this tiny community. But there are a lot of holes in the story.
Perhaps we will never find out how those papers made it to Zala, but we can tell the story of the road, the search and its stations and where we are now…
